The Delta State Government has closed down about 800 illegal primary and secondary schools operating all round the state.

The move is part of the state’s
determination to curb examination malpractices and all forms of illegalities. Making the announcement, the state
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof Patrick Muoghare said that 33 school operators had also been
arrested and detained.

According to him, the move is to improve the standard of education in the state following the shoddy performances of the
affected schools especially in meeting the conditions of effective teaching and learning.

The commissioner explained that for any school to be allowed to operate in the state, there was need for conducive learning environment as well as efficient
teachers to produce the requisite products.
